The Federal Reserve Bank of New York
Video Transcript
What is this random building? All right, I'm standing here in front of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. You can see this massive stone here where the name is engraved into, but this is the largest and most significant of the Federal Reserve Banks across the US. There's 12 in total, and this one is special because it's a literal fortress.
They keep gold in a vault deep underground here, about 80 ft below the ground. There are literally tons of gold that belongs to the US government, other foreign governments and it's all kept here stored in a very sophisticated vault.
There are over 507,000 bars of gold that they keep in there and a very sophisticated, highly-automated system to the point where there are robots that move the gold around. They don't allow anyone to go in there for obvious reasons. They don't want anyone slipping one in their pocket or anything like that.
And on top of this being the place where so much gold is held, this building takes up an entire city block. So, it doesn't matter what place you walk around this sidewalk here, you're going to be somewhere around the New York Federal Reserve Bank. But, yeah, it's really cool to see this place. They 100% not let me inside of course.
