The History of the New York Stock Exchange
Video Transcript
Okay, this massive building right behind me is the New York Stock Exchange. It is over 200 years old. It started back in 1792 with something called the Buttonwood agreement. So right behind the camera here is actually Wall Street, down the street, 68 Wall Street, there was supposedly, as the story goes, a Buttonwood tree under which they signed this actual agreement. So that's where the name comes from.
But in this building, well actually, kind of, digitally now, but we'll just say in this building here is where all the computers are and also a lot of traders are still, there are billions of dollars traded every single day. And this really is the symbol of the stock market not only in the US, but really across the world.
