Hurricane Resources FAQ's
Q. Will there be any relief on loan payments or fees for affected members?
A. We will assess each member's situation individually as we are contacted related to fees and emergency relief options. Please contact us at 800-822-0382 or visit your nearest branch.
Q. How do I file claims for property damage or loss related to the hurricane?
A. Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the FEMA-designated areas can begin applying for assistance at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) from 7:00 A.M – 11:00 P.M. daily, or by using the FEMA App. Anyone using a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, can give FEMA the number for that service.
If you have been impacted by damage from the storm, you may need to contact your insurance company to file a claim, apply for federal assistance if you live in a declared disaster area, or hire someone to complete repair work. You can also begin preparing for receipt of funds from your insurance claim by reviewing your loss draft packet which contains contact information for assistance with the claim process.

Business owners and self-employed individuals affected by the storm may also qualify for benefits. Visit NC Division of Employment Security for more information or to apply.

Q. How will Truliant communicate updates to affected members regarding services available and support?
A. We will update our website regularly as we receive additional details.
Q. How can I stay safe from potential scams at this time?
A. Regrettably, there are individuals who may exploit those affected by disasters. A frequent scam in home repairs involves someone arriving at your home and offering their services. They typically request payment in advance to buy materials, but after you pay, they fail to return. Stay cautious of any demands for upfront payment. Before engaging anyone, be sure to verify their references, insurance, and licenses.

Q. What initiatives is Truliant involved in to support the affected communities during recovery?
A. Truliant partnered with the Truliant Foundation to provide over $100,000 in support, including food, supplies, and other resources in Western NC and other impacted areas. This includes 16,000 bottles of water to Miracle Hill Ministries in Upstate SC, donations to Carolina's Credit Union Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, the Southeast Credit Union Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, and the Winston-Salem Police Foundation to support officers providing public security in disaster areas. The Truliant Foundation also provided financial support to Truliant employees in affected communities who were without power and basic necessities.
Additionally, during the 2024 holiday season, Truliant matched donations to the Truliant Foundation to provide households with essential cold-weather gear, including coats, blankets, gloves, mittens, hand warmers, and other sources of heat, to be distributed through Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina's Good Neighbor Program. This program has been ongoing for 20 years and supplies gift cards to individuals needing emergency assistance or facing a crisis. With the generous support of Truliant members and individual community members, Truliant provided $50,000 in gift cards to support ongoing relief efforts.
We will continue working with our organizational and non-profit partners to provide meaningful support to help these communities.
