Truliant Donates $10,000 to American Red Cross For Hurricane Florence Relief
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Sept. 24, 2018) – Following historic September flooding across much of the central Carolinas coast, Truliant Federal Credit Union is donating $10,000 to the Piedmont Triad Chapter of the American Red Cross for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Hurricane Florence has left a devastating wake of destruction in the southeast. The storm poured an estimated 10 trillion gallons of water across the Carolinas. Assistance to the American Red Cross works to provide safe shelter, warm meals and comfort for families affected by Florence. Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from this disaster.
“Hurricane Florence will require a massive ongoing recovery effort in the Carolinas. As the process of rebuilding begins, we hope that these funds will provide some small amount of hope and comfort to those in need,” said Truliant President Todd Hall. “We are committed to improving the lives of our members and helping their communities. This extends to our neighbors who are displaced and will need assistance in upcoming months. Our hearts and support go out to them.”
Rivers are still rising and it could be weeks before flooding ends. Red Cross estimates show as many as 88,000 homes were impacted across the region. The organizations’ response covers some 60,000 square miles of the southeast. As rivers continue to crest, many more people are expected to need help and the impacts to regional infrastructure are still being evaluated.
More than 3,600 Red Cross disaster workers from all over the country have been mobilized to help shelter, feed and support people affected by Florence. Working with partners, the Red Cross has served about 300,000 meals and snacks, and distributed more than 3,400 relief items like diapers and comfort kits that contain deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other hygiene items for people forced from their homes.
The Red Cross urges people in unaffected areas to make an appointment to give blood or platelets to care for patients in the Southeast and throughout the country. There is a critical need for platelet and type O blood donations. Appointments can be made by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Help people affected by Hurricane Florence by visiting redcross.org, calling 1- 800-RED CROSS or texting the word FLORENCE to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
